My mom was to be a direct admit planned a week ago based on her INR check at the Coumadin Clinic on Monday morning. On Monday at 7:40 AM her INR was low enough for Dr. U to do the direct admit. My mom was nearly passing out and ready to go to a hospital room planned for her. One and a half hours later...still sitting in her wheelchair on oxygen in the lobby with no information from anyone. I started calling doctor's offices, went to registration, spoke to the concierge, and asked the Coumadin Clinic staff for help. No one knew anything except that we had to wait for Dr. U's order to be put in the "system" which should have been there already from planning this for a week.
I wouldn't stop calling anyone at Advent Health Celebration for help, got voicemails, no info, transferred to people who didn't have any idea how to do direct admits, etc. Finally, I asked who is in charge of direct admits as I was about to take my mom to the ER at this point. Two hours had gone by. Someone said the Nursing Supervisor is in charge of direct admits, I asked to be connected to them. Got voicemail, left a message thinking nobody would call back. My phone rang right away, it was Emily the Nursing Supervisor returning my call. She advised me as to what to do, said she would watch the "system" for my mom's direct admit orders, and would get her a room ready now that I called her and let her know she would have a direct admit. Before I called and left a message she had no info on any direct admits that day. Emily gave me info, advised me as to what to do, and indeed got a room ready and waiting for my exhausted and very weak mother.
I thank God for staff like Emily here at AdventHealth Celebration. She may have literally saved my mom's life and she definitely restored my faith and sanity that day. Please recognize Emily for being a very bright angel-light on a sad, frustrating, and scary day. Thank you, Emily. I hope to go to nursing school and maybe work with you someday. Thank you.
