A couple of weeks ago, I experienced severe stomach pain that led me to the emergency room at Condell Hospital, resulting in an emergency appendectomy. As a new mother two months postpartum and with a toddler at home, I was understandably distressed. My mom, who had driven me and remained for 13 hours, was deeply touched when nurse Emily brought us water without us asking, a kindness she had never experienced before in a hospital. Emily also provided much-needed self-care items out of genuine thoughtfulness, making us feel valued. Despite the intense pain that night, Emily's calming demeanor eased my anxiety, and she engaged me in friendly conversation about life, kids, and cats. When I had to stay another night, I was grateful to have her as my nurse again. Her support enabled me to vent and allowed the doctor to manage my pain effectively, providing me with the best sleep I’d had since my baby was born. Emily even brought fresh blankets without being asked, showing her inherent kindness. Overall, patients fortunate enough to have nurse Emily receive exceptional care.
