Emily is the epitome of what it means to be an excellent nurse; providing compassionate, excellent and quality care. Just this morning, I was able to witness her explain a PICC line procedure to the patient, as well as going above and beyond to call the daughter and explain the procedure to her as well; to alleviate any anxiety for both the patient and family. This required explaining the procedure twice, taking twice as much time, but she took the time to do so. This also benefitted the SWAT nurse so that when she came up, there were fewer barriers prior to the procedure.
Emily has also gone above and beyond with a patient to make milkshakes for a man who had severe facial swelling, and not only did it have a clinical benefit, but she also made it taste good. She made a lasting impression on the patient, and he remembered her by name (and her milkshakes).
Emily does this consistently, approaching patients in a way that makes them feel truly cared for all while she balances her other patients; and is able to think critically, coordinating teamwork and promoting excellence.
