Emily was the picture of grace and mercy.
I would like to nominate Emily for a DAISY Award. Emily was the nurse who cared for my husband after he was injured in a fall at home. Emily was very compassionate, professional, and an expert in her clinical skills. Her care made our visit to the ED a good experience. My husband isn't the easiest patient. Emily would ask, "What can I get you?" His response, "I would give anything for a Snickers bar!"

After several tests and treatments, my husband was cleared and ready to be discharged home. Emily came in with our discharge papers and a Snickers bar. She not only made my sometimes-cranky husband smile, but she also showed us that she has that quality that makes nursing special. She was a wonderful nurse. Thanks Emily! From a fellow nurse and wife to one of those not-so-easy patients.

Emily went above and beyond while taking care of my dad. We were in the ER for 18 hours, and the shift Emily was there, she never failed to help Dad with a smile and laughter. Dad is 79, and she helped him keep his integrity while being changed, etc. She called me at home when I went there to rest a bit to fill me in on Dad.

I don't think I have ever met a nurse with such compassion, energy, love, and fun. That is Emily. She went above to make sure Dad was comfortable and safe. She went above to make sure my family was comfortable and informed. I cannot say enough about her and the fabulous job she did during that shift. She was that way with all the patients, and the ER was very full. She is so deserving and should be recognized for her work. Her job is her passion, and it shows.

My 79-year-old father came to the ED after a fall. He had extremely high blood sugar and low blood pressure. In the best of times, he is not an easy patient. Because of his pain and confusion, he was very high-maintenance. Emily was the picture of grace and mercy. She worked tirelessly to frequently adjust his position, help him to the bathroom, and do anything he needed.

We were in the ED with him for a total of around 19 hours before he could be transported to Bloomington. She was wonderful with him from start to finish, going the extra mile at every turn. She brought him warm blankets just in case he was too cool. When his meal came, she opened everything and set it out for him, just like he was her honored guest. Her energy and attention to detail are amazing!

Even though she ran all day to tend to Dad, she knew our names by the end of the day and even brought drinks to us. All the while, she was also caring for a packed unit. It was such a busy, busy day. But she never showed the first sign of stress. She is the perfect picture of what a nurse should be. She is truly deserving!
