Emily took care of my son in the CVICU during his stay following a central shunt procedure on his heart.
Emily took care of my son by giving him the medicine that he needed to ensure he was stable and recovering in a timely manner.
More importantly, she made sure he was comfortable and performed her work with compassion.
She personally advocated to ensure his pain meds were sufficient to ensure his comfort during his stay.
I've witnessed her with both teary eyes and smiles while working on my son, which shows that her heart is truly in the right place.
More than all of this, she also took the time to connect with my wife and me during a time that was difficult for us.
She didn't have to do that, but the fact that she took excellent care of my son while demonstrating her expertise and took care of us emotionally by connecting with us exceeded the definition of a nurse.
We don't just think of Emily as a nurse, we think of her as an exceptional nurse and friend.
I cannot thank her enough, but I do know that Riley Hospital is a better place with her there.
