Emily persisted and continued to advocate for her patient, ultimately resulting in a higher level of care transfer and the patient receiving the care he deserved.
I had the opportunity to observe Emily handle a difficult situation with grace and confidence while ensuring both her patient and his family felt heard, seen and in the best hands. Emily was caring for a patient who began to rapidly decline. Despite being told that her patient was fine/there was nothing to do, Emily persisted and continued to advocate for her patient, ultimately resulting in a higher level of care transfer and the patient receiving the care he deserved. When the family came to the bedside they instantly remembered Emily by name and talked about how she had turned one of the hardest situations in their life into one they looked back on with happiness and smiles because of the intentional time Emily spent in the room with them talking about memories and getting to personally know them. Many people would say she went above and beyond what would be expected of her, but I know Emily would disagree and say she just did what anyone else would do because that is the type of person and nurse she is. Caring, intentional, and one who advocates for what is right.
