When she introduced herself, she was kind and empathetic, and patiently listened to my needs and concerns.
I was admitted to the Raleigh Campus at 22 weeks gestation with severe preeclampsia. There wasn’t anything more that could be done and tragically, my son A was born still. Emma was one of my nurses the following day and I will never forget her as long as I live. When she introduced herself, she was kind and empathetic, and patiently listened to my needs and concerns. Before she left the room for the first time, she made sure to walk over to the cuddle cot and say hello to my son. That meant so much to me to have him acknowledged, his name spoken aloud, and treated like any other baby. She also helped the chaplains make the cement for his foot molds which showed a lot of care for my sweet baby boy. I was crying my eyes out when she came to bring the flash drive with his photos on it. She told me she was writing “Baby A” on the folder and would leave it in my bag for me and was ultimately very comforting. She also left a sweet message for us in the card the staff signed to offer their condolences, thanking us for the opportunity to care for him. When I found out about this award, I just knew I had to show my appreciation! Thank you, Emma, for helping us through the hardest challenge our family has ever had to endure and for showing my son care and dignity.
