It turned everything around. She turned his treatment around.
My husband suffered serious setbacks after his initial heart surgery. Not eating and depression were a problem. He went from an active man to unable to stand or feed himself. Emma Gaines not only bought his favorite ice cream and she made milkshakes for him. To fight the depression, she arranged with Dr. Lyn to be able to load all his equipment up and take him outside for a while, leaving behind the four walls that contained him for 30 days. It made all the difference. His eyes were brighter, his outlook changed for the better. His appetite picked up. This outing was not easily accomplished, but Emma solicited other Nurses and therapy to go with us. It turned everything around. She turned his treatment around. The compassion, love of others, and care she showed to not just my husband, but equally to me, is like nothing I’ve ever seen or heard of before. We have been blessed for sure.

Emma Gaines did an outstanding job taking care of a critically ill patient of mine, particularly over the course of his two most critical days. Over this period of time he underwent three operations, including placement of an Impella left ventricular assist device. He manifested severe post cardiotomy shock, MOSF, and a severe coagulopathy. Emma's minute-to-minute management at his bedside translated into initial stabilization, and eventual recovery over the course of his subsequent hospitalization. This was a case that required management of advanced end organ and life support devices and a strict unwavering attention to detail with respect to his tenuous condition during that early post-operative period. She was flawless.

Emma Gaines never left the patient's side. I realize that may be proper procedure, but we felt so taken care of after one of our longest and hardest days. She not only took care of her patient, but cared for the family member. Emma is gold. Thank you Emma.
