For more than a decade, Emma Hirtz has served at SSM Health DePaul Hospital in various roles. Her experience as a front-line nurse contributes to her ability as a nurse leader to build strong partnerships with and among her team. According to one coworker nominator, “She makes a concerted effort to listen to staff, encourage open communication, and collaborate on problem-solving. This has created a supportive and cohesive work environment, where every member of the team feels valued and appreciated.” Another nominator addressed her focus on accountability. “She sets high expectations for the team, but also holds herself to the same standard. She consistently follows through on commitments, takes ownership of mistakes, and works tirelessly to ensure that her department runs smoothly and efficiently. Due to her consistency and teamwork around foley and central-line care; our team has not had a CLABSI since August 2022 nor a CAUTI since July 2022.”
