Emma IS a DAISY. What do I mean by that?
Emma looks for the positive in any situation. It does not matter what is happening, she will take a deep breath, focus on the problem at hand, and handle it. Even in the chaos, she will find a way to have a smile on her face and a laugh. Emma is thoughtful, fair, and her calm presence is infectious.
Emma is approachable. She is diplomatic and has a listening ear. Emma is supportive and encouraging to her colleagues and to the new staff she is teaching. She escalates issues and concerns to find a resolution.
Emma is caring. She cares for patients and their families. She makes them feel safe and well-cared for. She is patient and listens to their concerns. Emma stands out, and patients remember her. Patients recognize the excellent care she provides. Emma cares for the new staff she trains. She is attentive and listens to their needs. Emma cares for the staff. She is an engaged charge nurse who does her very best to make sure everyone gets what they need and does not give up.
Life has been chaotic in recent months, especially on 5E, and Emma has been a source of calm and stability. She has artfully managed being a Charge and leading process changes. She has been flexible and taken her orientee to learn on another ICU to give them some stability in a time that "the normal way" has been turned upside down. She has supported staff and been a welcoming ear to her colleagues struggling to process the current state of the world.
Thank you, Emma, for all that you do for your patients and colleagues on 5 East!
