Emma Shaw, BSN, RN

I am a student nurse, and I was paired with Emma, taking care of a patient who was nonverbal with a trach and an anoxic brain injury. This patient who was unable to advocate for herself was so lucky to have a nurse like Emma. She was caring. Talked her patient through each step and took extra time to make sure she was well taken care of and looked to be comfortable. She taught me as a student how to be a nurse who treats patients with respect and compassion. Having a patient you can’t interact with is not easy, but through her actions, she taught me that it CAN be easy and that IT IS worth it to make sure your patient gets what they need. As I went on with my week, I couldn’t stop thinking about how kind Emma was, and I think if my family member were in the situation that this patient was in, I would be thrilled to have a nurse like Emma.
