I would like to nominate Matron Emma Wright for her response to a situation that arose recently: a "life partner" couple was brought in as a social admission as the wife was unwell: however due to the husband's dementia he was unable to be left alone. Emma spent an enormous amount of time to provide an arrangement for this couple to remain together within the ward recognising the importance of this for both individuals. From a care perspective, the gentleman was far more settled when he was with his wife and this prevented him from wandering around the ward and becoming very agitated without her. Emma discussed this case in great detail with senior management to determine whether the patients could remain together as they had refused to be separated. What this nomination does not portray is the compassion and care Emma communicated when she was describing this to me. I was really impressed that Emma felt so strongly about this and personally took the responsibility to make it happen.
