Emmanuel treats every patient with dignity and respect while advocating for their safety and well-being. His passion for his role is conveyed through every interaction with patients and their families.
As a nursing leader of a specialized unit, you face a myriad of challenges. The acuity of your patients can have a direct effect on the staff and quite often on you. Possessing the ability to maintain your composure while problem-solving is an art. Creating an environment of compassion, caring, and authenticity is nothing short of amazing! I am honored to nominate Emmanuel Owuor for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for outstanding leadership. Emmanuel is the assistant director of the inpatient behavioral health unit at University Hospital. As a state hospital, our patients are frequently members of an underserved population. Emmanuel treats every patient with dignity and respect while advocating for their safety and well-being. His passion for his role is conveyed through every interaction with patients and their families. He serves as a role model to his staff as well as the entire nursing team. Emmanuel willingly responds to crisis response codes on all units. His knowledge of de-escalation and caring for the psychiatric population is invaluable in fostering a safe environment for our patients and employees. His caring and compassion extend beyond our patient population. Recently, an employee was suffering a psychiatric crisis. Emmanuel worked throughout the weekend and after hours to ensure her safety and appropriate placement. He provided compassion and guidance not only to the patient and her family, but to the leadership team as well. Thank you, Emmanuel, for coming to work every day with dedication and focus on making a difference in the lives of all that you encounter.
