K was overjoyed, and Emmee immediately secured a bassinet for the baby and made sure all was prepared for her overnight stay. K's healing accelerated that night with the baby close to her. She started to feel like a "normal" real momma.
My daughter K had an unexpectedly difficult delivery of her first baby, our first grandbaby. She experienced two grand mal seizures prior to the emergency C-section. The NICU team was present for a full resuscitation, but our granddaughter came out screaming. K was in the ICU on a ventilator and Magnesium for about 12 hours, L&D briefly, and ultimately ended up in Med-Surg (4 Surgical) until discharge due to multiple bowel blockages. Our family was, needless to say, beyond overwhelmed and emotional due to the series of events and our daughter's level of sickness.

Emmee cared for K for the last three days of her stay. She was thorough in her assessments and followed through with all tasks consistently. I have been an OB nurse for over 20 years and noted how eager Emmee was, even in learning how to perform a post-partum assessment. She performed tasks that normally a nurse would delegate to a CNA, such as bed changes and ambulating K in the hallway for her first time. She was patient with questions, thorough with labs and vital follow-ups, and calm in all situations, even while her assignments with other patients were busy. K had not gotten to spend much time with her new baby in the beginning, having a very challenging post-partum recovery period. The baby was discharged a few days prior to her momma, and Emmee asked us if we wanted the baby to stay the night in med-surg. She encouraged this to work on breastfeeding and bonding for both baby and momma, which is so important in the immediate post-delivery period. K was overjoyed, and Emmee immediately secured a bassinet for the baby and made sure all was prepared for her overnight stay. K's healing accelerated that night with the baby close to her. She started to feel like a "normal" real momma.

I cannot say enough about Emmee. She reminds me of myself at her age as a new nurse; diligent, steadfast, empathetic, and truly exemplifying good ole fashioned nursing-bedside care at its best!
