My wife was admitted to the inpatient surgery care ward at IU Health North at Carmel following her bilateral mastectomy on October 3rd. We first met Emmy Nix on October 5th, and after experiencing a few unpleasant encounters with previous nurses, we were incredibly grateful to have Emmy care for my wife.

Emmy’s kindness and helpful nature were evident from the moment we met her. She was exceptionally organized and made it a point to check in on my wife regularly, ensuring that her needs were met without us having to ask. A particularly meaningful moment was when we requested Emmy to help my wife take a shower. She handled the situation with extraordinary care, making my wife feel safe, respected, and supported during a vulnerable moment.

Nurses like her should be mentors to others in the unit, teaching by example how to be both clinically skilled and deeply empathetic to patients.
