Through resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to one another and their patients, Overlook Endoscopy has demonstrated what true high achievement looks like.
Overlook Endoscopy exemplifies OMC’s mission and PRIDE values by excelling as a high-achievement team. In 2025, Overlook Endoscopy achieved a historic milestone by completing a department record of 10,142 procedures, surpassing the 10,000-case mark for the first time. This accomplishment was made even more remarkable given the obstacles the team faced, including active construction, onboarding 15 new team members, and managing periods where more than five team members were on leave of absence simultaneously. Comprising over 70 dedicated professionals—registrars, PCTs, endoscopy technicians, environmental service representatives, nurses, and support staff—the team consistently worked in unison to provide compassionate, efficient care in a clean and welcoming environment.

The department executed a complex operational transition by converting the vacant ICU space into a functional procedural area. Just as preparations to move began, a widespread illness resulted in over 15 endoscopy nurses being out for a week. Rather than cancel procedures, the team rallied together, creatively leveraged all available personnel resources, and continued operations without canceling a single case. This pivotal moment demonstrated the department’s resilience and reinforced a shared belief: when this team works together, no challenge is insurmountable.

The subsequent relocation effort was equally impressive. The team successfully transferred two pre-op bays, one procedure room, two recovery bays, and three storage rooms to an alternate location. By mid-May, the ICU space—officially named 4 West Annex, affectionately called “The Annex” by the team—was fully operational. Despite ongoing staffing strain from vacancies and LOAs, the team continued to deliver safe, high-quality care and continued to be committed to ongoing efficiency metrics such as on-time first case starts and case turnover time. All while simultaneously onboarding seven nurses and one endoscopy technician during the construction period to ensure long-term stability post construction.

As operations continued in The Annex for nearly five months, frontline staff proactively identified workflow improvements, quickly transforming a temporary space into a seamless extension of the department. In October, Overlook Endoscopy received Department of Health approval to open its newly renovated procedure rooms—marking the successful conclusion of a demanding yet triumphant chapter.

The team’s excellence has been clearly recognized by patients. Press Ganey feedback during this time described the department as “professionally well-orchestrated,” while another patient shared, “Everyone in the team and all the caregivers who took care of me were so thoughtful and caring. It's evident that they take pride in their work and bring joy in all that they do.”

Through resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to one another and their patients, Overlook Endoscopy has demonstrated what true high achievement looks like. This team not only met extraordinary challenges—they transformed them into lasting success. Through exceptional collaboration across healthcare disciplines, unwavering commitment to patient safety, and an extraordinary culture of teamwork, Overlook Endoscopy will continue to exemplify PRIDE values and uphold OMC’s mission to provide remarkable patient care.
