He takes time to listen to patients, treats them as the person they are, not the diagnosis. He finds a way to bond with them to build a trustful relationship.
The DAISY Foundation expresses gratitude to nurses with programs that recognize them for the extraordinary compassionate, skillful care they provide patients and families. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in healthcare. The DAISY Award inspires nurses to provide extraordinary care not only with their brains but also with their hearts.

Life Saver, team player, compassionate, trustworthy, reliable, go to resource, and “easy on the eyes” are some of the adjectives that have been used to describe our recipient by patients, families and peers.

While rounding one patient stated she felt like Eric Flamand’s critical thinking and willingness to listen is what saved her life, she stated she would be forever grateful to him. He takes time to listen to patients, treats them as the person they are, not the diagnosis. He finds a way to bond with them to build a trustful relationship.

He is a resource for his peers not only in his role as a float pool nurse but also as a house manager. He is comfortable discussing safety concerns, trained as a preceptor and is often the mentor for our new staff.

Throughout the last 2 years I have enjoyed watching this nurse flourish his compassion for our patients here at UofL Health - Shelbyville Hospital. I am honored to present the DAISY award to Eric Flamand. Thank you for all you do for our community, patients, families and peers.

Congratulations Eric.
