Thanks to his efforts, I was calm and figured out what was happening to me, looking into the medication's side effects.
Eric arrived on shift at 7 pm and I was in quite a state. I felt as if no one was listening to me. Later it was found that I was experiencing a series of side effects from an antibiotic combo medication. I was scared, confused, agitated, and getting angry even. Eric said, “Hey, I have time right now; I can talk to you.” We talked and even laughed, too. I began feeling better within an hour. Eric was showing intelligence with empathy. This can be rare but is so wonderfully compatible with a healing environment. We "vibed" right away, and even if we didn't, he made me feel as if we understood one another. Best of all, he did not dismiss my worries or concerns. Instead, Eric even said, "No, don't feel bad about this; you need to continue to advocate for yourself."
Thanks to his efforts, I was calm and figured out what was happening to me, looking into the medication's side effects. Bonus: I was able to eat my first meal in 9 days! 9 days and finally I was able to eat & keep it all down, Amazing! I have a serious infection resulting in mastoid surgery and a tube insertion followed by weeks of IV antibiotics. It was all missed on my previous stay, which delayed the surgery, which is a necessary part of my recovery.
God Bless Eric, and I am thankful from the bottom of my heart. I asked quite honestly, "Am I crazy? Or do you see what I see?" And they replied, "No, I see it!" Eric encourages me to continue to advocate for myself when called for, which is potentially lifesaving in a situation like mine. Eric even researched ways to make my other medications easier on my body, considering what I had just been through. Eric is a true DAISY Nurse.
