Eric Shaffer was the nurse of the 4th floor that took care of me after my heart cath; I had to have two stents put in. He was very attentive and always in a positive mindset. No matter what the job was, he had a smile on his face and never seemed to be bothered or tired of questions or needs. I kept running out of water to drink. He did not seem to tire of the request for more ice and water. He picked up on things to help me be more comfortable and checked on me frequently. He made sure I felt free to push the button if I needed him at any time.
He seemed to always have a bubbly personality and his responses to things were uplifting. Eric always seemed to enjoy his job, not treating it as a job only. I could tell that he really does care about the patients and makes you feel like you are his friend, as well as a patient he just met. He treated my wife in the very same way with respect, care, and friendliness.
When I accidentally got blood all over the bed and floor, I was really sorry and felt bad. Eric put me right at ease by telling me that this happens, and it really was not a big deal. He said that it would be taken care of and for me not to be worried about it. He immediately got the bleeding stopped and put another bandage on. Even though he was very serious about taking care of the problem, he still managed to be upbeat and talked to us normally and everything was okay.
I was released to go home and was anxious to get going. Of course, the paperwork takes time. Eric knew I was itching to go and kept checking the computer for when the order came down so he could take off the heart monitors and take the IV out. He just laughed and would say that they had not come to him yet, but soon. He had everything ready once he received the orders and had me ready to leave quickly.
