Eric Weber is a pillar in our unit. He has promoted camaraderie among the staff of our unit using humor whenever possible to relieve stress in a high stress environment over the last ten years. When he is on duty, he creates a positive atmosphere where moments of fun are shared.
For example, an elderly woman fainted in the bathroom and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated. The patient successfully regained her full faculties then expressed concern about how her hair looked and whether she was decent enough when it all happened. Eric, ever the compassionate nurse, responded by telling her "you carried yourself well even in the face of impending death". We were rewarded when this made the patient giggle and thank him for his reassurance.
Eric is a dependable team player striving to accommodate new and senior staff with any task for all employees at any level. He throws himself whole-heartedly into assisting with complex problem solutions, physical work and follow through. One family member came to the nurses' station and began a loud, long rambling litany about her primary nurse, and her own inadequacies and responsibilities as the sole caretaker of a family member. Many of us felt embarrassed by this display, but throughout this discourse, our wonderful nurse listened and expressed his compassion for her situation. Eventually, this patient was consoled and apologized to her primary nurse.
Eric has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he applies to many situations. Because of his strong male presence, he has assisted us with unruly patients supporting both nursing and the Security guards during these situations. He uses therapeutic communication with patients to de-escalate these situations. Patients follow his instructions and return to a calmer state.
When our compassionate, good-natured nurse is around, the unit sails smoothly through all storms and is filled with his natural warmth and good nature.
