I came in for surgery to have part of my colon removed. Erica was there to spend the time explaining to me what was going on and encouraging me when I felt my intestines were never going to wake up. She took the time to listen to me, even if I was only telling her about my life and family. One day, I woke up feeling horrible. I was hurting and throwing up. Erica wrapped me in her arms, wiped my tears, and rubbed my head like a mom would. It turned out I had popped a stitch, and my intestines herniated into it, pinching off my intestines. I had to go in for another surgery. Erica had a couple of days off. When she got back, I was doing laps in the hallway. She saw me and gave me a great big hug, saying, “I am so happy to see you up and about.” She treated me more like someone she had known for a long time, rather than just a patient. This is the type of nurse who deserves an award!

Thank you, Erica, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
