Erica Cook, ADN, RN

I am a 70-year-old woman who just had a total right knee replacement. Erica Cook, the 3rd shift Head Nurse, introduced herself and the ancillary staff with a big, beaming, caring smile. She wrote my care plan for her shift on the board and then explained my care plan. She was very organized, and I like knowing what to expect.

I was in so much pain. I was not totally coherent and able to do much of anything. She assured me that things would get better and that she would make sure I was as comfortable as possible. During the days I was hospitalized and she was there, no matter how many times I had to go to the bathroom, she was there within minutes. She always helped me back in bed, adjusted my sheets, and changed the linen if needed.

Erica’s professionalism shone through with active listening skills, thorough knowledge of nursing, and her duties. One night I was in agonizing pain, and she went out of her way to find the ordered medication I needed because it was not available on the floor. Her compassion and expediency in responding to other issues that arose were remarkable, and I applaud her for this. She is a one-of-a-kind asset to Novant and needs to be truly recognized and appreciated. Erica goes above and beyond, and this allowed my family to feel a sense of relief. They, too, are grateful for her excellent service and leadership when she was working with other staff.
