I met Nurse Erica sometime in 2018 when my 12-year-old daughter needed a specialized surgery for her ankle. This was not my daughter's first ever surgery, but it was her first surgery with Dr. S's team. My daughter has seen many doctors, nurses, and specialists at Seattle Children's over the years, and from the beginning, Erica impressed me with her attention to detail and ability to be both professional and caring.
What I especially like about Erica is that she goes the extra mile and she does so quickly. For instance, if she says she is going to follow up with the doctor, she means it and always follows through. If she says she will call me back, she will. If I email her with a question, she gets back to me quite quickly and I appreciate that. Just this week after my daughter's test results came in, Erica thanked me for having the test done and then sent a follow-up email to remind me to continue with the other parts of her treatment plan.
Another time, I asked Erica to report back to me on two doctors. It was not her responsibility to follow up with the other doctor's team, but she didn't mind following up because I asked her to. She never tried to explain to me what was her responsibility or not her responsibility, but she went the extra mile. She understood I could not figure out how to have a conversation with the other doctor. She also understood why I wanted someone to take on the role of communicator/facilitator and she did so with elegance.
My daughter has had many nurses during her countless visits to Seattle Children's. Erica never appears overwhelmed in her job and tasks. She always manages things well. She has a good sense of humor, too, and these things are important qualities to have when dealing with patients and their families.
Nurse Erica is extraordinary. I always feel like she is on top of my daughter's treatment plan and that she cares. I want to make sure she is thanked and recognized. Thank you, Nurse Erica. You rock!
