I would like to nominate Erica Igo for a DAISY Award for her determination and compassion yesterday. I had a sweet elderly lady who had wandered into the ED somehow and was soaking wet. She had no ID on her and could only tell us her name and birthday. There were no records of her, and we had no way to contact her family. Erica spent hours combing through a list of numbers I found, contacting local PD/hospitals, and speaking to CM/DHR, trying to help me find someone who knew this lady. She also spent so much time caring for this patient and talking to her, and even crying with her, trying to get any information we could and calming the patient as best she could. We ultimately got in touch with a family member about 3.5 hours after she arrived, and they confirmed she had dementia and had wandered off. No one knew where she was or how to find her. I am just beyond grateful for her help yesterday, and seeing the care and compassion she had towards this patient was amazing. Then seeing how grateful the family was for Erica’s determination to contact them and how relieved they were was the highlight of my day. I just wanted you to know how great a nurse she is, and I’m beyond grateful for her assistance yesterday. She’s one of the good ones.
