I've been in and out of hospitals for three months this year with my parents who were each dying of cancer. In all those weeks of experiences with nurses at three different hospitals, Erica stands out as the most supportive, caring, compassionate one I have ever met.
Erica was with me through what will probably prove to be the last two nights of my mom's life.
It's how she carries herself and communicates that stands out. Her caring smile, her look of concern, the way she focuses intently on my mom's current conditions and gives exceptional care as quickly and effectively as possible, the way she checked on me as my mom's hospice caregiver, the tone of her voice, her body language - ALL of it said she cared. We mattered. She was here for us.
It was a privilege to share those nights with Erica, who helped me feel very supported in these difficult times.
