I am taking this moment to nominate this nurse for the DAISY award. I noticed a rust tinge to my urine. In mid-September, I went on a cruise and observed a continuous darkening of urine output. I had several secure messages regarding rust colored to very red urine. In early January, with absolutely no notice, I visited the geriatric team. This nurse referred me to the Emergency Room where I was sent for an abdominal CT scan. Based on the findings, she moved mountains to get me into the Urology clinic, including the VA facility in Leavenworth, KS. When that would be a delay, with her tenacious spirit and unwavering commitment, she had Care in the Community Brought in, and in a mere TEN days, a 5.8 cm malignant tumor was removed. I have been seen in many clinics in the three decades I’ve been a VA patient, and this nurse has demonstrated care, kindness, and compassion unparalleled. I, without hesitation, believe this nurse saved my life. For this, I humbly ask she be awarded the prestigious DAISY Award.
