Erica called me at midnight to let me know that after reviewing my mom's record she was concerned.
My very active 88-year-old mother fell and broke her hip on Saturday. She had surgery on Sunday and seemed to be doing well. Monday was a rough day. She could not get out of bed without dropping her blood pressure and feeling dizzy. Later that evening, an H&H was drawn and it came back quite low. It was reported to the attending but no orders were given. Erica called me at midnight to let me know that after reviewing my mom's record she was concerned. She called the surgeon who ordered blood the next morning, and my mother felt much better. Her call made me feel much better as well! I was confident that she was watching my mom! As a nurse who works with new grad RNs, I have always tried to instill the importance of patient advocacy. "What is the worst thing that could happen to your patient? What would it look like? What would you do?" Erica did just that! She saw something that didn't seem right and she followed up. We so appreciate her concern & caring!
