Erica Sis defines RUSH nursing with her kindness, caring, and demonstration of ICARE values. She went above and beyond in care for one particular patient and her family member.

A woman has been on our unit for almost a year when she had a liver transplant she has been through a lot (multiple surgeries, procedures, infections, etc) and her husband has been at her bedside every single day. He has gotten to know each and every one of our nurses, and has become a part of our SICU family. I have witnessed Erica greet them every day with a smile on her face, she has helped to decorate the patient's room for all the holidays, and has sat for a few minutes out of her day chatting with her husband and making sure he has a blanket or coffee.

Most recently, Erica collected money from all of our staff and put together a very thoughtful gift basket for this patient's husband. It contained a reusable coffee mug, candies, and gift cards to Au Bon Pain and Subway. She also bought a very thoughtful card and had all the staff sign it; all to show that we appreciate not only the love and support he has given his wife over the past 10 months, but the trust and respect he has shown our nursing staff. He has been a part of our unit for a long time and he was very touched by this gesture.

I am nominating Erica Sis for the DAISY award because I feel this gesture of compassion and kindness exemplifies what RUSH nursing is, and what the DAISY award stands for.
