Erica is compassionate and kind.
Our unit has a long-term patient with behavioral health issues who has a long history of abusive behavior, yelling out, screaming, striking others, and as a result has been a difficult placement in finding a home, and most nurses tend to avoid this patient if possible.
Not Erica. She consistently takes her care of this patient, and others, extremely seriously and with as much kindness, determination, and compassion she can muster. She takes him out on walks in the unit with a wheelchair, goes on "dates" to help calm his mood and redirect his behavior, and goes above and beyond in helping others with their care.
Erica demonstrates teamwork and partnership based on the way she consistently offers to help others with patients. She has offered to help with complex tasks (bladder scan and following foley) when she notes other nurses are busy.
All in all, she is an incredible person to work with.
Lastly, Erica continually applies what she learns and empowers others to take part. She volunteered to sport the latest in PPE fashion (and to be in the 4S newsletter) in order to promote the importance of proper PPE wearing.
She has shown exemplary leadership in sharing tasks with others and demonstrating leadership by service. Erica is a true DAISY Nurse.
