I am recognizing Ericka Manning, the nurse assigned to my Dad on the 4th floor. I shared my father’s history, and that I didn’t believe ED did a cardiac workup on my dad with new onset LBBB and chest pain relieved with NTG. She immediately called the hospitalist and informed them of my concerns. Due to her actions that night advocating for my father, a cardiac workup was done, finding that my Dad’s Troponin was indeed elevated.

Her actions also led to a consultation with cardiology. She took care of him the rest of the evening on remote Telemetry (my mother raved about how great a nurse Ericka is as well). He was transferred to a room in the morning. My Dad’s cardiology team came to visit him and advised that the LBBB seen on the 12-lead was indeed new and a very acute change from his workup in June. He was scheduled for a heart cath procedure where they placed 2 stents for an 80% blockage in his LAD and 1 stent for a 90% blockage in his OM.

Had Ericka not reached out that morning, after listening to my concerns, there is a high possibility that my Dad would have had a major cardiac event. She absolutely needs to be commended for advocating for her patient! Your hospital is very blessed to have her! She is the reason that actions were taken that led to the proper cardiac workup, which will now give me years with my beloved Dad.
