I came to the hospital with concerns about my pregnancy. When my husband and I came from the ER to labor and delivery, Ericka was the first nurse by our sides. We knew there was a good chance we were losing our twins. Ericka was there from the beginning to comfort us and tell us her personal experiences and how to cope with what was happening. She answered any questions we had and just talked to us. My husband and I felt like she never left our sides the entire time she was there. When she did leave our room and I needed something, I would push the call button and she would be back in seconds. She was very accommodating to our family in the waiting room. She always made sure that we were comfortable and answered questions about next steps that would be happening. She was there holding my hand when our twin boys were delivered and cried with us after they were here. When it came to difficult decisions like holding our babies, we had no clue what to do. My husband and I had never been put in this situation and never imagined we would have to make a decision like this. She helped us talk through the options and gave us advice on what would help us cope. She comforted our families after the boys were born. She was with us almost her entire shift and finally left us after her shift had ended to do paperwork. She came back to our room nearly two hours after her shift to check on us before she left. She did more than was ever expected to help me, my husband, and our families cope with the situation. She even reached out to me after we got home just to check to see how we were doing. Losing our twin boys is harder than we ever imagined, but Ericka knew just what to say and do and made the whole situation just a little easier to deal with. We don't feel like we would have been able to do this without the help and care of Ericka and we will forever be grateful to her being there with us.
