Erik was clearly competent and had the personality and social acumen to communicate and put at ease an elderly patient who was clearly a handful.
Let's just start out with my Mother is 96. I am not one to usually write a review for anything, but I felt this nurse went above and beyond. Erik was extremely patient and compassionate while remaining professional while caring for our mother. There literally was not a thing my Mother did not complain about - right down to the bed linens - and he would just address her questions so thoughtfully and calmly, never snarky, and although the answer was most often not what Mom preferred, she would consider his remark and "stand down." He had to explain things to her more than once, which he did, with not so much as an eyeball roll. He never ignored her but patiently explained everything he was doing - which is so important with the elderly because they are a bit slower but get very upset when they do not know what is happening. When she complained even before getting her food, he suggested the sorbet, and it was the best thing on the menu - and she was so pleased. He did not ignore my sister or me either. He helped us get blankets and stuff, ordered all our dinners one night and helped when we couldn't get the phone figured out. We have been in many hospitals, with both my father, now passed, and my mother, for various ailments in recent years. We have had a few good nurses, but the one thing I have noticed is they all tend to ignore my parents (at different levels, mostly dismissive) and their questions - even with us in the room. And usually, any type of bedside manner is often sorely lacking. Erik was clearly competent and had the personality and social acumen to communicate and put at ease an elderly patient who was clearly a handful. We appreciated the wonderful care Erik provided for our family so very much.
