July 2023 Honoree
Erika D Wimberly, RN
Erika was seeing a patient with developmental disability for her routine DMPA injection. The patient's mother commented that the patient wasn't herself and was looking a little bloated. Erika did an assessment and agreed that something wasn't right. She felt that the appointment that had been scheduled for the patient over a week away with her PCP was not appropriate so she physically went over to primary care, spoke with the team, and coordinated for the patient to be evaluated that day. It turned out the patient had a bowel obstruction and had emergent surgery that day. Erika not only used excellent clinical intuition, but made the effort and took the time to get the patient cared for expediently.
Thank you, Erika D, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
