While hospitalized, for an unrelated reason, I became ill with COVID and I quickly learned that it is not a disease with which people treat you with kindness once you contract. Nevertheless, amidst this understandable fear, Erika went out of her way to treat me with compassion and find every means of being helpful to me beyond her excellent nursing. Her lack of discrimination and true focus on the veteran should make the VA very proud.
