Erika was caring for a young woman who was not yet on comfort care but was nearing the end of life. Both the patient and her partner, who was at her bedside, were going through very difficult and emotional times. Erika spent extra time checking on both the patient and her significant other's well being. The significant other did not want to leave the patient's bedside for even a minute. Erika spoke with her encouraging her that she needed to take care of herself as well, but of course, as any of us would the significant other refused to leave the patient.
Erika took it upon herself to get food of her own that she brought in from home and gave it to the patient's significant other. She then went downstairs and bought a quilt for the patient with her own money. Erika extends her love to all of her patients in this way and it is a trait to be recognized and appreciated.
