As a physiatry nurse, Erika is faced with difficult patients on their worst day. Even when a patient is late to their appointment, crabby and upset, she will consult with her physician on how and why we need to fit this patient in. She is an extraordinary nurse who embodies patient-centered care and leadership in every aspect of her work. Erika consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, showing a deep sense of empathy and dedication. She not only ensures that her patients receive the best care during their appointments but also follows up afterward to check on their progress, ensuring they achieve positive outcomes. She is a leader within her team and clinic preceptor; Erika welcomes new employees with warmth and a sense of belonging. She makes them feel like part of the orthopedic family from day one, contributing to a positive and supportive work environment. Despite her extremely busy schedule, Erika maintains a kind, happy demeanor, and patients call the office and mention her by name for the wonderful care she provides. Her contributions make her an invaluable asset to our orthopedic department and Northwestern Medicine.

I once treated a 56-year-old woman with an acute foot drop. An EMG test showed that the foot drop was from sciatic nerve compression. She was not willing to do more tests due to the cost and did not have a PCP. Erika contacted the patient multiple times and convinced her to proceed with an MRI, which showed multiple metastatic lesions with a mass compressing the nerve. Erika then helped her to get financial aid and assisted her in establishing further care. Truly the most compassionate and competent nurse.
