Erika didn't feel like a boss or coworker, but like a mom who really cared for me.
Last Monday, I got sexually harassed by a patient. I'm only 20, am new into the healthcare field, and this is my first sexual harassment incident. Many, many people helped me that day like a fellow COPE Health Scholar and the HUC at the time. But Erika, the charge nurse at the time of the incident, really reassured me and held me. She didn't feel like a boss or coworker, but like a mom who really cared for me. She kept telling me it wasn't my fault, what I could do differently if this ever happened again and got more higher-ups involved with the incident. Erika helped me professionally, emotionally, and gave me the courage to return to work without feeling embarrassed and self-conscious around the other staff.
