With their assistance and positive attitude, I was able to have my son delivered vaginally and safely!
I came into MBU to be induced. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, even though I was nervous the whole time. My nurse, Erika Treanor, walked me to the room where I would be for my stay and helped me settle in. She helped me feel more comfortable by answering my millions of questions and was always nice and friendly in every response! Even though she was on night shift, her time with me stood out so much. I always looked forward to having her as my nurse because she was more than a nurse; she was a friend who was there for me at every stage. During the process of being induced, I was finally in labor after getting my water broken, and it was getting scary. The doctor had notified me that the baby’s heart rate kept going low after contractions, and they were getting worried the baby was in distress. My nurse, Erika, instantly got the Corpsman and had me in a position on my knees and hands to see if the baby would have a better heart rate in this position. Which the baby did, so I had to continue to stay in that position. Eventually, I went back to lying down to get some rest, and nurse Erika stayed to monitor the baby’s heart rate while holding the monitor, since the baby kept changing positions. I was offered a fetal scalp electrode by the doctor, but I declined because I had an Intrauterine Pressure Catheter, and honestly, that was already scary for me. After lying down and getting some rest, the doctor came in again and said that the baby’s heart rate was happening again and that there was a possibility of a C-section. Nurse Erika mentioned that the baby liked the hands-and-knees position, so they recommended I go back into it, and thankfully she was right. I continued to stay in that position, and Nurse Erika continued to hold the monitor and keep track of the baby’s heart rate the whole time! Not once did I ever hear her complain or give off negative vibes, even though I know it was tiring. Her supporting me kept me going! With their assistance and positive attitude, I was able to have my son delivered vaginally and safely! This was my third induction and by far the most stressful and scariest, but I am so thankful for my nurse who was there for me! I am also thankful for the other nurses, Corpsmen, and doctors who were a part of my labor experience.
