Erika came in on a Sunday (she was not scheduled) to help out lactation because the census was high. She was lactation for our unit on 3A and had been over here for the two previous days. One of our patients was having difficulty with engorgement and having difficulty getting the breastmilk to come out. The patient was familiar with Erika from the two days before. Erika spent countless hours in the patient's room on and off all day. She went above and beyond her call of duty for this particular patient. Erika also helped another patient on the same unit. This patient was having the complete opposite problem from the other mom. This patient was in the GRACE program and was breastfeeding for 3 days. The infant ended up being transferred to the NICU and the Neo doctor told the mother she could not breastfeed. The mother's milk had completely come in. Erika ordered some cabbage leaves to help dry up her milk supply. This patient had an extensive personal history and heavy story and Erika stayed in the room a while just listening to the patient. I just wanted to take the time to acknowledge all of her hard work and make sure she did not go unnoticed for her efforts.

Thank you, Erika Y, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
