I could tell Mom was being cared for by a skilled, compassionate nurse.

During my mother’s recent stay, she told me how nice all the nurses were to her. My sincere gratitude to each and every one of you. One of mother’s nurses really impressed me.

Erin provided all the technical and physical care Mom needed and the emotional care she needed most of all. She called me at home one evening to update me on Mom’s condition. She is the only nurse who did this during Mom’s stay. That call was very comforting to me. I could tell Mom was being cared for by a skilled, compassionate nurse.

The next day when I entered Mom’s room, a nurse was sitting with mom holding her hand and comforting her. This nurse was Erin. Mom was preparing to die and this was the care she truly needed. Someone quietly listening to her, answering her questions, and calming her fears. During that visit, Erin addressed Mom’s emotional needs two more times. She was the first person to engage in a hospice conversation with me. She answered many questions and contacted the doctor on my behalf.

During Mom’s hospital stay, Erin was transferred back and forth from floors. On her final return, Erin greeted me as I entered the floor. Even though Mom wasn’t her patient, she briefly took time to welcome us back to the floor and offer me emotional support as Mom was unresponsive and actively dying by then. As a fellow nurse, I know how busy and intense a nurse’s assignment can be. Often emotional support is overlooked. At times that is the most important care needed. It was so reassuring to me that Erin found time to practice her technical skills, bedside care, and emotional care. Thank you!

Erin has been communicating regularly to the family. She made us feel that our Dad is as important to her as he is to us. She is very patient and responsive to our Dad. She was comforting and reassuring during this difficult time.
