Erin exemplifies the very essence of nursing: compassion, skill, dedication, and humanity. Her care will remain with our family forever.
I am honored to nominate Erin for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, attentiveness, and professionalism she provided to my grandmother and to our family during her final days.
After more than two weeks on multiple units, our family had interacted with many nurses, but Erin stood out immediately as exceptional.
Even on busy days when she was clearly managing multiple patients, she never made us feel rushed when she was in our room. She was present, patient, and took the time to truly listen to our concerns and support us through an incredibly difficult experience.
Although my grandmother was unconscious, Erin treated her with dignity and tenderness in every interaction. Each time she entered the room, she would do small, meaningful things to ensure her comfort, gently combing her hair, wiping her eyes, tucking her stuffed bunny back beside her. These gestures may have seemed simple, but to us they reflected deep respect, compassion, and genuine love for her patients.
Erin also demonstrated outstanding clinical attentiveness. She knew how important it was to us that my grandmother’s pain medication schedule remain precise, and she was consistently on time and proactive in monitoring her comfort.
She carefully observed subtle changes, like furrowing of the brows or lifting of the shoulders while breathing, and recognized these as signs of discomfort that we ourselves had not noticed. Because she took the time to understand my grandmother’s unique cues, she was able to anticipate needs and provide additional comfort measures without us even having to ask.
Equally meaningful was the care she extended to our family. Erin checked in with us regularly, asked how we were coping, and made sure we felt supported and informed.
When my grandmother passed, her kindness and presence were exactly what we needed. She spoke about my grandmother with warmth and respect, expressed gratitude that we were able to be with her, and offered a heartfelt hug that made us feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for in one of the hardest moments of our lives.
Erin exemplifies the very essence of nursing: compassion, skill, dedication, and humanity. Her care will remain with our family forever.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Erin.
