Erin was my person, my shoulder when my fiancée couldn’t be that. She went above and beyond to save my little girl’s life and hold me up through it all.
This nurse is an extraordinary, caring, and loving nurse.

Back in February 2023, I came to HCA Memorial’s Emergency Room for hyperemesis gravidarum flare-up.  I felt horrible, scared, and uneasy, as well as severely dehydrated.  This nurse immediately tried to start an IV on me.  My veins are small and, on a good day, are hard to find and difficult to start.  With determination and perseverance, she found one and started the needed IV fluids.

Later in the evening, as this nurse was assessing my condition, she couldn’t hear the baby’s heartbeat!  The nurse adjusted the monitor but couldn’t find the heartbeat.  Soon after, I was told I would need an emergency C-section.  I asked this nurse to please stay with me, I was so scared.  She comforted me by saying she would be with me.  When I woke up, the first person I remember seeing was the same nurse who had helped me so much earlier.  I felt safe and felt like everything was going to be ok.  She didn’t leave me when I was asleep, under anesthesia.  She provided me with an update on my baby, how she was born prematurely but alive! and how things went during the cesarean.  She also told me my family was there and waiting to see me.

My baby was severely pre-term and had to be transferred to a level III NICU.  This was a terrifying experience for me.  My fiancée was not able to be with me due to the urgency of my need to be seen in the ER, then having my baby go into fetal distress, and the need for an emergency c-section.  This nurse was my person, my shoulder when my fiancée couldn’t be that. This nurse went above and beyond to save my little girl’s life and hold me up through it all.

This nurse is a DAISY Nurse, showing amazing skill, compassion, and genuine care.  She saw me all the way through this terrifying experience until I felt safe in the postpartum ward. I don’t think I could have gotten through this without her.
