As a new member of the UPMC Hanover ED team, I cannot express how much of an impact Erin Shock has had on my transition. I have over a decade of ED nursing experience, including being in leadership roles. However, I am new to the UPMC Hanover ED and the role of educator. Erin has embraced and welcomed me since before day 1. I arrived at my new unit to see my office door had been brightly decorated with signs welcoming me to the team. She went above and beyond to earmark Teams pages and contact lists and made sure I had access to everything I needed to settle into my new home. This may seem very minor, and even expected, of our leaders, however it made my transition leaps and bounds easier and smoother. She made an outsider feel like they belonged.

In working alongside her over the past few months coupled with the leadership experience that I have, I can honestly say that her role model abilities are second to none. I could not imagine having a better representative of my department. Her staff look to her for guidance and support. Erin provides that and so much more with such grace and transparency. She has embraced the role of being a leader in nursing and has well exceeded any expectations of the role. The pride she takes in providing quality patient care and empowering her staff to do the same is unmatched and one that should be emulated.

Erin's professionalism, integrity, and general motivation to do the right thing make her an excellent role model for future leaders and, most importantly, nurses. Again, what she does is often expected of leaders and relatively minor, however, those small things have added up to making a new team member feel welcomed and empowered.
