One of our patients was a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital but developed breast cancer at age 32. She was admitted to Hospice care recently. Many of the nurses on the 6th floor had worked with her and felt too emotionally involved to provide care. Erin stepped up and did the job despite also having the same feelings. She was courageous and compassionate for doing what was clearly difficult but needed to be done.
