My step-father was admitted to the Emergency Room at Newark Wayne Community hospital for treatment of his Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He was moved that evening to the Telemetry unit. The entire staff of Telemetry was great, but one nurse, Erin List, stands out and deserves special recognition.
Erin impressed the whole family with her passion for nursing, and her respect for us and for my step-father. She asked my Mother for every detail of his illness and the events leading to his hospital stay, and actively listened to every response, saying how important each detail was to his treatment plan.
She described what was known at the time based on lab results and tests, and the information my Mother provided, and the treatment plan based on those observations and the desired outcome.
Whenever she came in with an injection or to perform any type of treatment, she told us what she was doing, and how it should help my Dad.
Erin's methods of interacting with the family and patient should be the model for nursing staff. She should give training on how she relates to the patient, family, and staff so everyone can learn from her example. Her exemplary conduct deserves a DAISY Award and much more.
