Erin is truly a one of a kind person and nurse. Her commitment to providing the best and safest care to the children on our unit goes well beyond what is expected of her. Her heart for her patient's is clearly shown through the compassionate care she has delivered over the many years she has been here. Her critical thinking skills are exemplary, and her kind and approachable bedside manner makes her a favorite of many patients and families.
Although still providing and closely involved in patient care on a daily basis, Erin has spent the last few years focusing her attention on the new nurses on our unit. She helps with the transition from new graduate nurse to bedside Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse through her role as Code/Rapid Response Team mentor. She takes the time to interact with and teach every nurse on night shift. This includes sharing ideas on time management, prioritization or teaching a new skill. Although she provides valuable clinical insight and practical nursing application, where she excels the most is in simply being there for people. When you need to talk about the stress of caring for sick children or dealing with a challenging situation, she is always ready to listen.
Erin makes life on our unit better. Not just for her patients, but also for every nurse, patient and family she interacts with. She perfectly exemplifies what a Children's Hospital of Wisconsin nurse should be.
