I shared personal information with her, and before I knew it, she was wiping tears from my eyes and seemed to tear up a little herself.
Erin is a complete joy to behold. I met her for the first time today, and I'll never forget her. Her patient care skills are awesome. She was my nurse today, and she was assigned a patient who was there to receive chemotherapy for the first time. She told me to make her feel welcome. She spent extra time going over procedures, medications, and the process the new patient would need to know. She answered questions without hesitation and pride. I'm a people person, and she realized that almost immediately. Erin is engaging and warm. When you have cancer, you don't want a down person working with you. You want a precious angel beside you to stick yet another needle in your arm. I asked another nurse for assistance, and she looked at me as though I had asked her for a kidney. Not Erin!! Not only is she kind and sweet, but she's also very knowledgeable. Before I retired, I worked as a therapist, so it's easy for me to recognize a jewel when I see one. Erin won me over right away. I shared personal information with her, and before I knew it, she was wiping tears from my eyes and seemed to tear up a little herself. That's just what a cancer patient needs. Not just a nurse who does her job well, but one who listens and understands. Erin is the type of nurse whom you ask to have again and again if given a choice. She was told that someone called in sick from work today, which meant her role for the day had suddenly changed. Did she complain or look annoyed? No, she did not! She smiled and accepted her new assignment with pride. These are attributes you can't teach. They are just a part of who you are. Nurses sometimes don't get the respect they so rightly deserve. Erin is a hard worker who enters early with grace and dignity. She's a superstar!
