When we cried (which happened a lot), she comforted us. When we were able to laugh and see the light, she joined us in the joy. When we were frustrated or confused, she helped us reason and understand. She made the roller coaster more bearable and even hard to leave.
I could write a book about how much we love Erin and the many times she had a positive impact on our time in the NICU. Erin had a huge impact on improving the experience for us. She quickly became a primary nurse for our son, and we couldn't be more thankful! Erin let us know how we could be involved and how we could advocate for our son right from the start. The care she provided encouraged us to question and ask for explanations. She would often give details and explain exactly what was going on before we even knew what questions to ask. Erin even made herself available when she was off shift if we wanted to reach out. While she was away to visit family, she reached out to find out how our son was doing, and even from another state, she gave reassurance and encouragement, answering our questions and calming this mama's heart with what was going on. Her bedside manners and straightforward approach contribute to making her one of the best nurses I've ever encountered. When medical teams would round, she would get involved, noting details or patterns she'd seen with our son, helping point things out that may otherwise have gone unnoticed. This specifically gave us the confidence to do the same when we noticed items of concern. As much as we wanted to be at the hospital with our son, when she was on shift, she made it easier to step away and take care of things while she was there, because we had absolute confidence that he would be cared for in the best way possible. When we cried (which happened a lot), she comforted us. When we were able to laugh and see the light, she joined us in the joy. When we were frustrated or confused, she helped us reason and understand. She made the roller coaster more bearable and even hard to leave. Throughout our whole time in NICU, Erin didn’t just communicate well; she built trust. We are fully convinced that our son would not have been able to leave the NICU as early as he did if it hadn't been for Erin's care being a part of his journey. God answered many a prayer in the form of Erin.
