I am honored to nominate Erin Stegman, my dear friend's hospice nurse, for the DAISY Award. Over the past six months, Erin has not only provided exceptional health care to my friend but she has become a part of our family. Her presence is a source of comfort and stability during this challenging time, and we are truly grateful for the peace and kindness she brings into our lives. What makes Erin a great nurse goes beyond her clinical responsibilities. She instinctively knows when my friend is feeling anxious or in need of support, and she always finds the perfect way to ease her worries. Erin’s warmth and kindness have filled my friend's home with laughter, even in the midst of difficult days. She’s shared in our joy, she’s comforted us in our sorrow, and she has walked this long road beside us with unwavering compassion. In addition to her incredible caregiving, Erin has skillfully managed the emotions that go hand-in-hand along with unique personalities and dynamics of my friend's family and friends. It has not been easy but Erin has never wavered in her support of her. Erin always maintains her focus on what’s best for my friend, balancing every decision around her wellbeing and needs. She is constantly communicating with us and many family members, helping us navigate this process. Her dedication and empathy have made an incredibly tough journey bearable. We can’t imagine going through this without Erin by our side. She has brought joy, peace, and kindness during a time that has otherwise been filled with heartache, and I know we will deeply miss her presence once this journey is complete. Erin exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY nurse: she is not only a wonderful caregiver but also a truly wonderful person. We are so grateful for her.
