Erin Ramirez, BSN, RN
It was another crazy, busy day at the center. This day was a bit different as we typically care for adult patients, but we do provide care for pediatric patients for some specialties. It takes a special nurse to care for a pediatric patient. Not only do you need to know how to interact based on the child's age, but you also have a second set of patients to care for: the parents.
You have to balance caring for the child while providing comfort and reassurance to the child's parents. On this crazy day, I witnessed Erin, RN, pull off an exceptional balancing act. She not only provided the highest-quality care to her pediatric patient but also updated and reassured the child's parents, even letting them return to the recovery room as the child woke up, so that her first image was of her parents by her side.
She also did this while seamlessly continuing to check on her teammates, offering them assistance wherever she could. On this day, I had the privilege of working alongside and witnessing first-hand the exceptional patient care, family care, and teamwork from Erin.
